What TRI Validation Actually Means - and Why It Matters at Auction

The Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka is not a regulatory body. It does not issue export licenses or set import standards. What it does is serve as the authoritative scientific institution for Ceylon Tea quality - the body whose reference standards are used at the Colombo auction and cited by buyers globally.

When SpectrifyAI received TRI validation in December 2025, it meant our NIR moisture model had been validated against TRI's own reference method - the ISO oven drying standard. TPP validation is currently in progress.

What the validation process involved

Over three years, our models were calibrated against hundreds of factory samples tested in parallel using TRI's reference methods. The validation was not awarded when our models matched TRI results - it was awarded when TRI confirmed that the match was within acceptable tolerance across a wide range of sample types and factory environments.

Why it matters at auction

A certified reading is a defensible reading. If a broker, buyer, or quality auditor challenges a moisture or TPP measurement from a SpectrifyAI device, the response is not "our device says so." It is: "this reading was produced by a device independently validated by the Tea Research Institute against the same reference standards you use to evaluate this lot."

TRI Validated · December 2025

SpectrifyAI is the first commercial NIR spectrometer in Sri Lanka to receive formal validation from the Tea Research Institute.
